Upper School
St. Andrew’s Upper School continues the progression of personal support and individualized education that are the hallmarks of A St. Andrew’s Education. With a class size average of 10 students and twice daily advising sessions, Upper School students work closely with their teachers to find their own path to success.
The Upper School offers a strong college preparatory program designed to prepare our students for college life and beyond. The curriculum builds from a foundation in the ninth grade and leads to more advanced courses, including those at the Advanced Placement (AP) level. We focus on learning as a process and work to develop skills that will lead to thoughtful and effective problem solving in every subject area. Our teachers recognize that each student approaches material in a multitude of ways and at a varied pace. As a result, they are focused on ensuring that all students master the course material, and in turn, use an assortment of multi-sensory techniques to make sure those goals are attained. In addition, extra help is offered formally twice a week during the school day, and more often on an informal basis during the entire week and weekend. Since many of our teachers work throughout the day and evening, they are always more than willing to help students achieve their goals.
The Upper School also stresses the community life that is fundamental to a complete St. Andrew’s education. It involves many areas such as attending Morning Meeting where the entire school assembles to listen to announcements and celebrate achievements, to community service where students give back to others, to working with the Lower and Middle School students as reading buddies, to supporting our athletic teams as fans, and even celebrating everyone’s birthday, just to name a few. Community matters here at the School and a visit to our campus will show why our students feel like they are part of a family and that St. Andrew’s has made a difference in their education and their lives.
