The St. Andrew's campus operates 24/7 and offers a warm and welcoming home environment to our boarding students and community. Numerous weekend activities that are interesting, enjoyable, and fun are scheduled throughout the school year.
The School’s proximity to Providence, Newport, and Boston allows for a wide range of cultural and recreational activities. Day students are welcomed and often join boarders on many of these excursions and many of the events counts toward the eight required cultural events for the school year. Students may visit museums, go to the movies, concerts, plays, sporting events, or cultural events such as Providence’s Waterfire. Other activities may include dances, ice skating, roller blading, bowling, open gym, hiking, skiing, and travel to nearby areas of interest. Every weekend, there is at least one scheduled “Errand Van” to take boarding students to local grocery stores and nearby department and specialty stores. The van often makes a special trip to themed markets so our international students can pick up supplies.
During each activity slot, there are both free activities and activities that charge a fee. Students typically spend about $30 per weekend, and are encouraged to open an account with the Student Bank in the Business office. Students sign up for activities that most interest them, and any costs incurred are deducted from their activities accounts. With parent permission, juniors and seniors in good standing may opt out of any scheduled activities, remaining in the dorm or checking off campus to an appropriate destination. Freshmen and sophomores in good standing may, with proper permissions, remain in the dorm Friday evening and/or opt out of the Saturday afternoon activity. Many boarders take the opportunity to spend a weekend with St. Andrew’s friends in their homes, with appropriate parent permission.
