Athletic Training
Athletic training is practiced by athletic trainers; health care professionals who work with physicians to optimize activity and participation of athletes, patients and/or clients. Athletic training encompasses the following domains: prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities. At St. Andrew’s, a full-time Athletic Trainer Certified (ATC) is employed to provide athletic training services to our athletes. The athletic trainer is available before, during, and after all athletic events. The athletic trainer must abide by the Standards of Practice and maintain proper certification and state licensure. In Rhode Island, all practicing athletic trainers must also be licensed by the state health board and therefore may also be known as Licensed Athletic Trainers (LAT).
