“The Learned Ladies”

Keats Theatre, McCulloch Center for the Arts
Friday and Saturday, February 7 & 8 at 7:00 pm

Set in the 1970s of feminism and disco dancing, this uproarious comedy features the less than literary Philamente and her equally unliterary cohorts as they are duped by the conniving Trissotin, a would-be poet intent on becoming a permanent house-guest.  His plans are eventually up-ended by the wits of an astute in-law, a sassy maid and a less than ideal husband, creating a rollicking story sure to leave the audience in stitches. Moliere’s “The Learned Ladies” is adapted and translated by Fredya Thomas with direction by St. Andrew’s theater teacher, Joanne Fayan.

This adaptation is accessible to audiences of all ages. It’s a timeless comedy and the 70s allowed for a backdrop of the women’s movement and highly colorful fashion that is  perfect for this story.
