ACTSA Summer Camps

ACTSA, the premier children’s theater, invites you to participate in our 2014 Summer Theater Program.

From the budding performer to the star struck ACTor, ACTSA offers a fun-filled, full impact theater experience. Each week campers will work with professional Teaching Theater Artists, engaging their imaginations through the world of drama and creative play.

Now a feature of the Rhode Island/Massachusetts community summer activities, our ACTSA Ensemble Tour and Summer Musical welcome intermediate and advanced students. It’s a unique experience for the more advanced ACTor, a bold opportunity to perform for the public.

ACTSA continues its commitment to provide a professional theater arts education as a primary source for developing life skills to empower young people.

• For ages 5-18 – Beginner to Advanced
• Camps run June 23 - August 15, 2014
• Session Details:
  1-week sessions/half day for ages 5-7

  2-week sessions/full day for ages 8-18
• Prices range from $150 - $650 (No scholarships or financial aid available)

STAGE I
ACTSA JR.

Ages 5 - 7, entering grades K - 2
June 30 - July 3, 9 am - 12 pm
July 7 - 11, 9 am - 12 pm
New Play Each Week! This camp offers theater-loving kids, ages 5+ an opportunity to develop their confidence, character and presentation skills through ensemble performance. Inspired by Broadway’s cherished works, Broadway Bound is designed to build confidence, inspire creative expression, and explore the three components of Musical Theater: Singing, Dancing and Acting! Each week-long session ends with a presentation for family and friends.

ACTSA I - All levels
Ages 8 - 15, entering grades 3 - 9
June 30 - July 11 (No class on July 4th), 9 am - 3 pm
August 4- 8, 9 am - 3 pm
Each session is designed for ACTors of all skill levels. ACTors will focus on movement and voice, improvisation, character creation, play analysis, singing, dancing and performance techniques. NOTE: ACTors are not required to sing. Each session ends with a presentation to showcase their talents for family and friends.

STAGE II
Rock Opera, Intermediate/Advanced

Ages 8 - 18, entering grades 3 - 12
June 23 - July 3 (No class on July 4th), 9 am - 3 pm
ACTors will work on selections from a popular Rock Opera (TBD). Learn vocal and movement techniques and dynamic performance skills during this electrifying camp! The week ends with a rockin’ presentation for family and friends. Pre-requisite: Previous ACTSA class/camp or permission of the Summer Theater Director.

ACTSA Ensemble Tour - Intermediate/Advanced
Ages 8 - 18, entering grades 3-12
July 14 - 25, 9 am - 4 pm
This camp is designed for older ACTors who have completed ACTSA classes or have previously attended a two-week summer theater camp. Actors will delve into challenging material while continuing to focus on the basic building blocks of ACTing techniques. This camp is designed for the more experienced actor.

Creature Feature - Intermediate/Advanced
Ages 8 - 18, entering grades 3-12
July 28 - August 8, 9 am - 4 pm
Creature Feature is a collaboration between Big Nazo Puppets and ACTSA. Campers have the opportunity to create a puppet with Big Nazo and then create a ‘fantasy” world such as “Terebithia” or “Narnia” where their unique puppet/creature might live. This collaboration offers the more experienced camper the opportunity to create two fully-developed characters, one who would exist in an everyday world and a fantasy creature who exists in a fantasy world. This camp is designed for the more experienced actor.
