Just Five Questions: Coach Hart

In addition to serving as the School's Director of Athletics, Coach Hart has been coaching basketball at St. Andrew's since 1994!  In the second of our Just Five Questions series, learn more about the man and the coach who inspires us all to work hard.  Go Saints!

Q:
What led you to St. Andrew’s?

A:
I came to St Andrew's in the fall of 1994 because they had an opening to be a head boys' basketball coach. The team was 0-22 in 1993-94 so I figured we could improve our record in 1994-95. We did! We went 1-21!

Q: Have you always been interested in athletics? When and how did the interest develop?

A:
I grew up around sports. My first love was football, which I started playing when I was six years old. Baseball was king in the '70s and I played Little League all the way to high school varsity. I also ran track in high school. However, as basketball became more popular in the '70s and '80s, my interest in the game soared. I really enjoyed playing basketball and working hard to improve my skills. I ended up having a good high school career and played at the college level.

Q:What is most rewarding about your job?

A:
I really enjoy watching our kids compete for St. Andrew's. Our teams are extensions of the classroom and our kids represent our community proudly. Your sports teams are a showcase for your school and our coaches hold the kids to high standards. We have received a lot of positive publicity through sports throughout my time here at St. Andrew's.

Q:What do you do outside of work? Any hobbies or favorite activities?

A:
I really enjoy traveling. I've been lucky to be associated with EF Tours thanks to fellow teachers Pam Farmer and Sue McGann. I've been to many countries over the past 20 years. Also, I'm trying to become more active and start enjoying exercise on a full-time basis again. Reading also has always been one of my favorite things to do. And finally, my family takes up most of my time outside the job.

Q:What one word would you use to describe yourself?

A:
Dedicated
